Obituary

With the deep sense of pain, sorry and grief, it is announced that renowned scholar and jurist, Dr. Javid Iqbal, Hilal-e-Imtiaz, (October 5, 1924 – October 3, 2015) son of the Poet-Philosopher Allama Iqbal passed away to the adobe of peace on October 3, 2015 at 8:20 AM, انا للہ و انا الیہ راجعون . May Allah Almighty peace and bless his soul in heavens. He had gone through surgery in Shoukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital on September 30, 2015.

Dr. Javid Iqbal served as Vice President of Iqbal Academy Pakistan for twenty one years till 2010. Even before and after reliving from the position, he always patronized the Iqbal Academy Pakistan as well as contributed towards dissemination of teachings and works of Allama Iqbal which is the basis of formation of Pakistan.

Dr. Javid Iqbal authored a number of books including the most comprehensive and authoritative biography of Allama Iqbal Zinda Rud. He also edited Allama Iqbal’s personal note book Stray Reflections.  His contribution The Concept of State in Islam: A reassessment also got international fame.

Dr. Javid Iqbal served as Chief Justice of Lahore High Court from March 5, 1982 to October 5, 1986 and as judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan from October 5, 1986 to October 4, 1989.

His son Mr. Munib Iqbal is serving as Vice President of Iqbal Academy Pakistan and his successor in Allama Iqbal Museum Trust.
