In the past, he enjoyed a great diversity of positions in different sectors, spending the most amount of time (and the most fun time) in academe as a lecturer at graduate and post graduate levels in Pakistan. He says:
"Iqbal for me is a glorious start of the new era of religious thought and character in Islam, but most certainly not the end!! It is a shame that even after almost a century, Iqbal remains to be the height of our intellectual rise, contrary to what Iqbal said, "there is no such thing as finality in philosophical thinking. As knowledge advances and fresh avenues of thought are opened, other views, and probably sounder views ... are possible. Our duty is carefully to watch the progress of human thought, and to maintain an independent critical attitude towards it"; I go one step further and say (as also frequently craved by Iqbal) that our duty is to 'be' the progress of human thought and character. My dream is to see our youngsters start where Iqbal left, soar above and beyond his great intellectual rise, and with all our energies, intellect and love, keep bound for the ascent to the Mi'raj that we are entitled to achieve. This is the only thing that will keep Iqbal alive, and us as a nation, and as Adam, the Khalifatan Fil Ard".
