The formative years

From 1905 to 1908 Iqbal spent three years in Europe. On his return Iqbal recollected his thoughts and ideas about western civilization and arrived it the conclusion that western civilization with all its out word glammar and its brilliance was hollow and temporary. It could not last for long as its foundations were weak. He expresses this idea also poetically and says:

One is blinded by the glitter of the western civilization

This glitter is only a reflection of artificial stones.
